Hippo-Tonic Tick Removal Tweezers - Set of 3 Orange
Sold in sets of 3, the Hippo-Tonic Tick Removal Tweezers come with three different hook sizes to handle all tick sizes:
- Very small model: for larvae and nymphs (often overlooked and barely visible, these are responsible for 80% of disease transmissions).
- Small model: for adult ticks
- Large model: for engorged adult ticks
Easy to use, the Hippo-Tonic Tick Removal Tweezers ensure a quick and painless removal, without crushing the tick or leaving its head embedded in the skin.
Using these tweezers reduces the risk of inflammation, infection, and pathogen transmission (Lyme disease, tick-borne encephalitis, piroplasmosis, etc.).
Essential pharmacy accessories at the stables, the Hippo-Tonic Tick Removal Tweezers can be used on horses, dogs, cats, and also on riders.
How to use tick removal tweezers?
- Select the appropriate size tweezer for the tick.
- Position the tweezer against the animal's skin and slide the hook around the tick, approaching from the side.
- Lift the tweezer slightly and turn it gently until the tick detaches by itself (usually 2 or 3 turns).
Caution: To prevent leaving parts or all of the tick's head on the animal, it's recommended to remove the tick with a twisting motion rather than pulling.
The tick's head has small barbs that help it anchor into the skin. Pulling on the tick can cause these barbs to lock into the skin, possibly causing the head to break off and lead to inflammation or infection.
Conversely, turning the tweezer aligns the barbs along the axis of rotation, allowing the tick to detach itself and minimizing the risk of breaking the head.
